Image
Akin Akinsoluga Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria – A fresh controversy has erupted at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as concerns grow over the alleged suppression of dissenting voices within the institution’s workers' unions. Some members have accused some union executives of being complicit in shielding the Vice-Chancellor from justice amid serious allegations, including sexual harassment. According to sources within the university community and from a news website (https://kayemonews.com/workers-unions-unmask-intruder-on-fuoye-whatsapp-platforms-say-the-intruder-was-smuggled-in-to-destabilize-varsity/) certain union leaders and some sponsored members, instead of prioritizing the welfare of their members, have allegedly been working to protect the university management. Critics argue that these executives and members, particularly from the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), were quick to...

Akin Akinsoluga SOTI has expressed deep disappointment over the statement credited to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Victor Ndoma-Egba, regarding the suspension of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, amid serious allegations. Ndoma-Egba, while speaking to FIJ, defended the council’s decision not to suspend the Vice-Chancellor, stating: “ There is no law that says when they are investigating somebody, he must be placed on suspension. It depends on the facts and the evidence available. The circumstances and facts are different. We need to get to the truth first before knowing what the justice of the situation is .” SOTI finds this statement not only misleading but also a deliberate attempt to shield the Vice-Chancellor from accountability, despite clear precedents of management staff, academic and non teaching staff being suspended under similar circumstances, particularly over sexual harassment complaints and other misconduct. As FIJ rightly noted: “ Their expe...

It is no longer news that Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has become a theater of persistent crises, with a select group of individuals orchestrating much of the unrest for personal gain. This cabal, which can best be described as conflict racketeers and profiteers, operates under the guise of loyalty to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, but in reality, they are fueling the instability for their selfish interests. The Kitchen Cabinet of Chaos At the forefront of this group is Dr. Awosusi, a former registrar of Ekiti State University (EKSU), who has reinvented himself as a “boy-boy” of the FUOYE Vice-Chancellor. Awosusi, who once held a position of respect in academia, has now aligned himself with dubious schemes, prioritizing personal rewards over institutional welfare. Alongside him are individuals like the DSS official attached to the Vice-Chancellor, who ...
