FUOYE Workers' Unions Accused of Covering Up Allegations and Suppressing Dissent

Allegations of Intrusion and Manipulation
The recent claim that an "intruder" had been smuggled into FUOYE workers' WhatsApp platforms has been met with skepticism. Some insiders allege that this is a calculated move to distract from the core issues of injustice and lack of accountability within the university. The so-called "intruders" were reportedly individuals from various platforms who were deliberately introduced to shift focus away from pressing concerns raised by staff members.
Further allegations suggest that some NASU executives, whose tenure expired over two years ago, have been unlawfully kept in office without any form of election. Critics argue that this is a deliberate attempt by the university management to maintain control over the union and prevent any form of resistance against alleged maladministration. The situation has been described as a system of mutual protection: “I cover you, you cover me. I go down, you go down.”
Union Executives Under Scrutiny
Concerns have also been raised about the roles of three SSANU members, Akinropo Femi, Fadeni Emmanuel, and Owasanoye Wale, who are reportedly working alongside the illegitimate NASU, and the chairman of NAAT. Calls have been made for a thorough investigation into their alleged involvement in activities aimed at intimidating, suppressing and threatening of union members' agitation for justice.
“This is nothing but an orchestrated distraction from the real issue at hand, the sexual harassment allegations. They are trying to divide staff members so that accountability is avoided,” said a senior FUOYE staff member who requested anonymity.
Fear of Victimization
With tensions rising, there are growing concerns about the safety of union members advocating for justice. In particular, the SSANU Public Relations Officer and other comrades leading the call for transparency have reportedly faced threats. The university community and the public have been urged to hold the implicated individuals accountable should any harm befall these activists.
“We are calling on the Presidency, the Ministry of Education, and other relevant agencies to intervene. The delay in releasing the investigative committee’s report is dangerous,” a concerned staff member said.
As the crisis deepens, observers argue that only an independent and transparent investigation can restore confidence in FUOYE’s administration and ensure justice for all parties involved.
Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria – A fresh controversy has erupted at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as concerns grow over the alleged suppression of dissenting voices within the institution’s workers' unions. Some members have accused some union executives of being complicit in shielding the Vice-Chancellor from justice amid serious allegations, including sexual harassment.
According to sources within the university community and from a news website (https://kayemonews.com/workers-unions-unmask-intruder-on-fuoye-whatsapp-platforms-say-the-intruder-was-smuggled-in-to-destabilize-varsity/) certain union leaders and some sponsored members, instead of prioritizing the welfare of their members, have allegedly been working to protect the university management.

Critics argue that these executives and members, particularly from the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), were quick to publicly pass a vote of confidence in the Vice-Chancellor while failing to address the grievances of their members.

Meanwhile, a statement allegedly made by the university's Registrar has added another layer of controversy. The Registrar was reportedly overheard suggesting that the sexual harassment allegations were false and frivolous, a claim that further fuels suspicions of a cover-up.
As the crisis deepens, observers argue that only an independent and transparent investigation can restore confidence in FUOYE’s administration and ensure justice for all parties involved.
