FUOYE CRISIS: MINISTER OF EDUCATION WARNS THE VICE CHANCELLOR, COUNCIL and REGISTRAR
Based on the outcry to the Minister of Education on the Vice Chancellorship successor crises rocking the institution of learning, the honorable Minister directed NUC Executive Secretary to summon the Council members, VC, Registrar and all members of both Search and Selection Committees. They were summoned on Tuesday 8th December 2020.
At the meeting where everybody was allowed to express his/her mind, the Executive Secretary, having listened to all parties warned the VC never to interfere in the appointment processes again. In fact, the Secretary told the VC that he has no job at the meetings of any of the committees that his job stopped at the election of Selection Committee by the University Senate.
The secretary also warned the Council Chairman against further defiance from the Laws and guidelines on the appointment of VC.
The Executive Secretary further blamed the University controversial Registrar of incompetence that he ought to have advised the Council appropriately peradventure he knows the job.
The Secretary recommended the Registrar for training immediately so as to avoid further administrative errors.
Meanwhile, after the meeting, some members of Council who insisted on following due process on the VC's Selection have started receiving series of threat calls.
With this move by the Minister, it is hoped that SANITY would now prevail. Due process should now be followed and extant laws governing selection of credible new VC should be strictly adhered to without undue interference and show of parochialism. No change of rules to favor any ”anointed” candidate, it must be thoroughly transparent and acceptable to the whole FUOYE Community.
