Resumption: Ibadan Poly students express high expectations By NAN Some students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Monday, expressed high expectations, as academic activities commenced for the second semester of 2019/2020 session. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that academic activities were initially disrupted by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and the industrial action by the institution’s labour unions. The students, in separate interviews with NAN in Ibadan on Monday, expressed delight at the commencement of academic activities after a long break. Josephine King, an HND II student, said he was happy with the resumption, having stayed so long at home. “Our expectations are very high. We expect that at the end of this year, we will be able to graduate and move on in life. “We are very optimistic about the new semester,” she said. EPL: Chelsea shortlist three centre-backs to sign for Tuchel Chelsea have shortlisted a three-man centre-backs to sign for their manager, Thomas Tuchel, this summer, according to The Athletic. Tuchel is keen to bolster his backline despite an excellent defensive record since he replaced Frank Lampard last January. Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule is one of the names Chelsea is looking at. Student jailed for stealing phone A Jos Upper Area Court in Kasuwan Nama, on Monday, sentenced Shedrack Wilson, 22, to one year imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone. The Judge, Daniel Damulak, convicted Wilson after pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of theft and begged the court for leniency. Damulak, however, gave the student an option of N20,000 fine, according to NAN. The prosecutor, Ibrahim Gowkat, had told the court that the case was reported at the A Division Police station, Jos, on January 31, by one Joseph Okopi. The complainant said Wilson, who resides at Gada Biu, dipped his hand into his parked car and picked an iPhone 6 valued at N108,000.
